Sean Hartzell

Sean is a trusted adviser to healthcare providers and executives and a leader in performance transformation. Clients value his experience with transaction facilitation, pre- and postmerger integration, hospital-physician alignment strategies, joint ventures, and strategic financial planning, particularly as they navigate the complexities of today’s changing healthcare landscape. Sean has worked with clients to reestablish operational and fiscal responsibility, accountability, and discipline.

At ECG, Sean has facilitated and managed numerous hospital-hospital, hospital-physician, and hospital–ambulatory surgery center acquisitions and integrations, worth in total more than $2 billion. Sean co‑led the successful transition of a $500 million Louisville-based academic medical center from a national management company to freestanding facility status. He also guided a Midwest health system through the acquisition and integration of a 350‑member physician group and 250,000‑member health plan. He recently worked with a $400 million mid‑Atlantic health system to implement the financial processes that allowed the client and ECG team to identify and execute more than $30 million in margin improvement initiatives over a 12‑month period. For another project, Sean headed the financial team at a $100 million Southeast post-acute provider to help the organization transform from losing $1 million per month to breaking even within six months.
